Michele M. Parkin

BA, LLB, MBA, Q.Arb

“My objective is to assist parties to find a fair resolution to their workplace dispute through effective and flexible processes that respect the people involved and are efficient and proportionate to the importance and complexity of the dispute.”

Michele Parkin (BA, LLB, MBA, Q.Arb) previously practiced law focusing on civil, commercial, labour and employment related litigation. As a law student and junior she worked on behalf of unions. Michele later entered in-house labour relations as an employer-side practitioner working in both the private and public sectors where she built a reputation for “turning around” challenged labour relationships. Since 1998 Michele has been productively resolving workplace issues and, in particular, has extensive experience in the post-secondary sector and with academic labour relations.

Michele is also experienced in collective agreement negotiation and interpretation, is familiar with workplace legislation and caselaw, and can assist parties with both rights-based and interest-based mediation and arbitration. As a senior organizational leader, Michele led many investigations and workplace reviews, making recommendations and engaging processes to resolve workplace conflict.

Michele is fair-minded and pragmatic and has won the respect of both union and management colleagues for her ability to creatively facilitate settlement and effectively determine a dispute.
